What are T Levels? Your Burning Questions Answered!

Tuesday 20th October 2026

The T Level Centre at Loughborough College

Launched in 2020 as an alternative to traditional A Levels and Apprenticeships, T Levels are a revolutionary two-year course, taken after GCSEs, for students looking to develop practical and knowledge-based skills that they can take forward into further education, or on to employment.

But what exactly are T Levels, and how can they support your future? To celebrate T Level Week 2026, we rounded up the five most frequently asked questions about T Levels, and how learning at Loughborough College Group can support your future development.

What are T Levels?

T Levels are a recently launched qualification for 16–18-year-olds, designed in collaboration with employers and education providers to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in their chosen industry.

Students have the opportunity to gain knowledge-based learning with experienced tutors across 11 different courses, taught at our Brooksby, Loughborough, and Stephenson College sites, whilst taking part in an on-the-job industry placement for a minimum of 315 hours over two years.

How are T Levels Assessed?

Through a variety of internal and external exams, portfolios, and set projects, T Level students work with College staff to set objectives to work towards during their industry placements. Students are fully supported throughout their course to prepare for exams and assessments, which vary from course to course.

How Can T Levels Benefit Me?

What makes T Levels unique is how they combine academic work and practical workplace training. Studying for a T Level with Loughborough College Group enables students to develop real-world skills whilst being supported by industry-experienced staff.

T Levels provide several progression options, including the world of work, apprenticeships, and degree-level education. UCAS tariff points are allocated to T Levels, and over 100 universities and higher education institutions accept these qualifications for entry onto their degree programmes. After completing their courses, our alumni have successfully progressed into Apprenticeships, full-time employment, and higher education.

What are T Level Placements?

Every T Level course includes industry placement with a local employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills needed for that occupation. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, or throughout the two years of the course. Placements last a minimum of 315 hours (approx. 45 days) but can last longer.

Industry placements are a great way for students to receive real-world experience in their chosen field, and offer students the opportunity to become more confident, independent, and develop connections to use when entering the world of work. Last year, student Harry Maddock landed a full-time role at Charnwood Borough Council, after an outstanding work placement through his Business Management and Administration T Level course.
